Idea Starters for Local Foods Week

Here are a couple examples of events from previous years’ Local Foods Week: “Sneak a Zucchini on Your Neighbor’s Porch”, community garden tours, farm tours, farmers markets, restaurants serving local food and recognition of local growers who donate to emergency food pantries.

Here are some ways various organizations can be involved in 2015 and beyond:

Chamber of Commerce

Share this local foods week invitation with relevant businesses

Host a progressive dinner with local restaurants that serve local food

Libraries and Bookstores:

Book exhibit: cookbooks, entrepreneur business, home food preservation, gardening, regional topics and food history

Share information about Ohio Local Foods Week on your community bulletin boards and invite individuals to participate in the $10 Ohio Local Foods challenge

Historical Societies and Museums

Display kitchen items: cooking utensils, home food preservation items, aprons and cookbooks

Host historical cooking demonstrations

Museums and Art Councils

Display complementary art for local food: garden tools, pottery and dishware

Producers and Growers:

Host farm tours and/or updates in your newsletter
